Ten Most Nutritious Foods

When my husband was a freshman in medical school, they had a class that was sort of a 'grand rounds'--a guest speaker every week in alternative medicine, cultural awareness, medical research, and even finance.

One day he came home, very excited. "We had some nutrition researchers today in survey class," he told me. "They told us what the Ten Most Nutritious Foods are. You won't be surprised that broccoli's top of the list."

"No kidding," I said. "I guess it's good we eat a lot of it."

"It is," he informed me. "The Brassica family. Lots of vitamin A and C, the fiber, all that. It's like the nearly perfect food."

"Yeah, you won't believe what the second one is. I couldn't believe it myself." He waited until I asked.

"Beer," he said. "The research shows that the grain is good, especially in liquid form. And it exercises a benefit to the parasympathetic nervous system."

"No way," I marveled. "I would never have guessed it."

He laughed, and he laughed . . . . he laughed some more . . . . .

And then you immediately declared that broccoli and beer would be the preferred daily snack at your residence. Well, ok, maybe not served together.

I dont "like" either believe it or not, but I do partake in both on occasion.

I was thinking the same thing - broccoli and beer...about as "explosive" a combination as bourbon and beans...LOL!

And we won't even get into sauerkraut or cabbage...(maybe NEXT month, say around the 17th?)

Good post..very nutritious.

Dear peedee,
I love broccoli but hate beer.

Dear SlamDunk,
There was no use trying to get rid of either one, although, the broccoli tended to disappear faster, since both of us liked it!

Dear Bob G.,
I'm okay with either beans or bourbon, but explosions should be kept to a minimum!

you guys are nice not to harp on how I was taken in another scam,

Actually there was some recent research on beer, saying it was good because it was full of antioxidents...unless my leg was being pulled ;-)

I like broccoli too--really.

Dear The Observer,
I'd rather get those anti-oxidants from the broccoli, myself.

I don't know about the leg thing . . . they have to laugh for me to tell . . .

Thanks for writing in!
